Concept

I chose line drawing for the illustrative concept. This technique strips downs representations to their simplest form, basic outline which allows for artists to natively create shapes from their own eye, using their senses and translating it in a way that shares their inner intricate views and skills.
Today’s Graphic Design tools range from the most traditional to the newest tech such as pen, pencil, rubber, digital pen, laptop, paper, table, compass, Quill and Ink, Charcoal, Paint, Paintbrushes…
To reflect this, I chose to represent some of these tools and incorporated them in the cover artwork, illustrating on point the edition title of ‘Drawing techniques in Graphic design’

Alternative layout & colour

The client demanded two final covers to chose from, one in black and white and one in colour, with a different layout each. Here is the second option, we like as much or better!

I really enjoyed working on this project. I love illustrating and line drawing is my absolute favourite. I am glad the result speaks for itself. I was also keen on the cover strongly communicating the magazine’s theme of Drawing techniques in Graphic Design and I think I achieved that in such a way that the type now supports the illustration rather than the opposite.
